Ted Liu is chairman of the board of KAIYUANSHE, a ground-up open source alliance in China, and who is also a member and sponsor ambassador (for China) of Apache Software Foundation. Previously, Ted worked in Microsoft, SAS, Oracle and Turbolinux in the past two decades. Ted is dedicated to open source communities, including KAIYUANSHE and ASF at this moment.
In 2014, Ted has co-founded KAIYUANSHE with the mission to advocate and promote open source in China and has focused on open source governance, international bridging and community development.
Ted has led the KAIYUANSHE to hold the Apache Roadshow in China in 2015 and a series of China Open Source Conference from 2016 to 2018, organize many OSS community events, such as hackathons, meetups, campus roadshows and more, publish 3 China open source ecosystem reports (2015, 2016 and 2018), engaged with leading international OSS communities and foundations, such as ASF, LF, GNOME, FreeBSD, OSI, etc., support a few domestic OSS projects entering ASF incubators, and drive 2 KAIYUANSHE initiated OSS projects, i.e. Open Hackathon Platform, KCoin Contribution Incentive Platform, New website project.
As a senior technical and business leader at several multi-national companies and currently an open source advocate, Ted Liu has given many public speeches the past two decades.
